Uncharted: Ruach, Spirit of GodSýnishorn

"Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” - Gen 31:3 (NIV)
Have you ever experienced an uncomfortable confrontation? This is exactly what Jacob encounters in Genesis 31. Family dynamics are tricky. Throw in some cultural rules and a dash of sin and situations between family members can turn sour quickly.
After twenty (fairly difficult) years working for his father-in-law Laban, it is time for Jacob to go home. God promises to be with him on the journey.
Subsequently, Jacob’s departure is not so easy! He tries to sneak away to avoid a confrontation with Laban, but his plan fails, and he is forced to face the music. Colourful words are exchanged between them!
Amazingly, the two resolve to separate in peace, promising that they will never cross over to harm the other. Finally, Jacob can head toward his homeland as a free man. He must have felt so relieved!
When I read this chapter, I am reminded of God’s faithfulness, even in the middle of our mess. I encourage you to look to God today, even if life feels messy. He is more than able to bring peace to your situation.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness, especially in the midst of strained relationships or difficult times. Thank You that You promise to be with me. Thank You that You’re the God who brings peace in the most uncomfortable or unfair situations. Amen.
