Uncharted: Ruach, Spirit of GodSýnishorn

"But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’” - Gen 32:12 (NIV)
Has God ever given you a promise to hold onto?
In Genesis 32, Jacob is on his way to his homeland, leaving Laban and all his struggles behind him. Or so he thought. There is one ghost from the past that he must face, his twin brother Esau, who, when last seen, was hotly pursuing to kill him.
Jacob hears that Esau is approaching, with 400 men in tow. He panics, thinking the worst will happen! But he also chooses to pray and cry out to God again. He knows God gave him a promise to hold onto, and in verse 12, he recites this promise to the promise-giver.
He says: “But you said to me, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.’" After an extraordinary run of events, including Jacob’s wrestle with God in physical form, God proves Himself faithful to His Word.
Has God given you a promise? Maybe He has spoken clearly and specifically to you or highlighted a promise from scripture. I find it best to write down God’s promises, otherwise I’m quick to forget! Write down a promise He has given you, and continue to pray about it. He will be faithful to you, just like He was to Jacob.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You are true to Your Word. Thank You that You give us promises to hold onto as You direct us through life. I pray I would put my trust in You afresh today and declare Your promises. Thank you for Your ongoing faithfulness. Amen.
