Uncharted: Ruach, Spirit of God

DAY 34 OF 70

"There are three things that are too amazing for me, four that I do not understand" - Prov 30:18 (NIV)

At times, I am tempted to say in prayer, “But God…!”

Especially when my prayers remain unanswered or I am wrestling with an unmet need in my life. Proverbs 30 presents a humbling message from God in reply. When I read this chapter, I am reminded of God’s power and sovereignty over all things and my smallness in comparison. A chapter like this tends to silence my reactions. If I allow myself to take in the words, they become a comfort to me. Verse 18 states that there are principles too wonderful for me to understand! As someone whose default is to try to uncover what God is doing and why, I find this statement so freeing.

There are times in life that call us to surrender to the mystery. And this is not some vague or wishful invitation. It’s a call to place full trust in God’s character and in his ability to hold all things together. He sees the finished masterpiece when all I see are the messy brush strokes. If there are things in your life, challenges perhaps, that you can’t make sense of today - lay them aside for a moment. Take a breath. It’s okay to sit in the mystery. The complexities of life are not a mystery to God.

Prayer:

Thank You Father that You are sovereign over all things. I choose to trust You with the mysteries in my life. Thank You that You are working behind the scenes even when I can’t see or understand. Help me to relax in the knowledge that You’ve got it covered. Amen.
