Lessons From God's MenSýnishorn

Moses Leads Past Reluctance
Every man eventually hears God’s call to step up—and doesn’t it seem like we often have an excuse ready?
Moses had his: “I’m not a good speaker. I’m not qualified. Send someone else.”
Sound familiar?
Maybe you’ve felt that same tug when it’s time to lead your family spiritually. Or take initiative at work. Or speak truth into a hard situation.
And like Moses, your first instinct isn’t courage—it’s retreat.
Moses wasn’t posturing when he told God he wasn’t the right man—he had some real limitations.
A stammering shepherd with a murder charge and a past he’d rather forget isn’t exactly your textbook leader.
But thankfully, God wasn’t looking for a polished resume; He was looking for a man of obedience.
And that’s when God can use us—when we stop fixating on what we aren’t and start trusting in who God is.
Men often believe the lie that leadership requires charisma or confidence, but Moses teaches us that real leadership begins with humility.
Isn’t that great news?
Your wife doesn’t need you to have all the answers, your kids don’t need a perfect dad, and your friends don’t need a smooth talker.
They need a man who shows up, speaks up, and trusts God to fill in the gaps.
God’s answer to Moses wasn’t just a pep talk; it was a beautiful promise: “I will be with you.”
And that’s His promise to you, too.
So what’s your excuse?
Not enough experience? Too much failure? Still struggling?
Great!
You’re exactly the kind of man God loves to deploy.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that I don’t need to have it all together to follow Your call. Help me to say “yes,” even when I feel unqualified. Teach me to rely not on my strength but on Yours. Amen.
Reflection: Today, commit to stepping forward in obedience, even if you feel unqualified. Trust that God equips those He calls. Like Moses, you don’t need to be perfect; you just need to be willing.
