God, I’m Tired: Honest Rest for Exhausted Parents

DAY 3 OF 8

When Rest Feels Impossible

Let’s be real, sometimes “just rest” sounds like a cruel joke.
Your house won’t clean itself. The baby won’t feed themselves. The teenager won’t magically stop testing your patience. The bills keep coming. The laundry multiplies. You close your eyes for two seconds and somebody’s yelling your name.

So when people throw out, “Just rest in the Lord!” it can feel like an empty church slogan. You nod, you smile but inside you think, “How? Show me where I’m supposed to squeeze that in when I can’t even pee alone.”

But what if rest isn’t just about naps or spa days you can’t afford?
What if it’s about letting go of the weight you were never meant to carry?
What if it’s about permission to breathe, even for five minutes without guilt whispering you should be doing something else?

Moses begged God: “If Your Presence does not go with us, don’t send us up from here.” And God answered: “My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest.”
Rest isn’t a vacation. It’s His Presence in the middle of your normal, messy, exhausted life. It’s a moment to remember: You’re not holding this family together alone.

Even if the dishes are still in the sink. Even if the toddler’s climbing the couch right now. Even if you don’t get a full night’s sleep tonight.
His Presence is rest. He is rest.
Invite Him into your chaos and breathe.

Reflection

What does “rest” look like for you today, not a perfect scenario, but a real moment with Jesus in the middle of your mess? Where can you invite His Presence right now?

Prayer

God, I don’t just need a break, I need You. Show me how to find real rest in Your Presence, right in the middle of my normal, loud, exhausting day. Remind me I’m not carrying this alone. Amen.
