Hebrews Part 1: Shallow ChristianitySýnishorn

Greater Than Moses
Greater Than Moses
Moses is one of the most revered figures in all of Scripture. Mentioned or alluded to around 800 times, his legacy spans continents and religions. God used him to confront Pharaoh, lead the Exodus, part the Red Sea, receive the Ten Commandments, and write the first five books of the Bible. He helped build the tabernacle and guided God's people to the edge of the Promised Land. His leadership was historic. His faithfulness was bold. But even Moses, as great as he was, pointed to someone greater.
Over a thousand years before Jesus arrived, God told Moses, “I will raise up for them a prophet like you...” (Deut. 18:18 ESV). Peter later confirmed in Acts 3 that this prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Like Moses, Jesus was a prophet, a leader, and a liberator. Both spoke God's words, both were Hebrews, and both served as God’s representatives to His people. But while Moses was a servant, Jesus is the Son. Moses helped build the house; Jesus owns the house.
Hebrews 3:3 (ESV) explains it plainly: Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house receives more honor than the house itself. Jesus wasn’t just following in Moses' footsteps; He was the reason Moses existed in the first place. Hebrews 11:26 tells us that Moses himself was looking forward to the glory of Christ.
And Jesus still holds unmatched authority today. He’s our Apostle—sent from the Father with all the authority of Heaven. He’s our High Priest—the compassionate bridge between us and God. And He’s the Son—the Heir of all things, reigning with power, glory, and unmatched dominion.
Let’s not settle for just admiring the work of God in history. Let’s worship the God who wrote that history. The law came through Moses. Grace and truth came through Jesus. And that same Jesus is still interceding for you today, as your eternal High Priest.
In what ways do you need to shift your focus from God’s servants or blessings to Jesus Himself, your apostle, high priest, and the Son who is still praying for you right now?
