The Power of Words - a Video Devo With America's Got Talent Winner, Dustin TavellaSýnishorn

Let’s Get Real:
I’m beyond challenged by the idea that our words can literally bring about life or death.
Think about that for a second.
How different would things be if we actually lived like we believed this?
Our words can:
- Crush someone’s confidence.
- Kill someone’s hope.
- Damage someone’s faith.
OR…
Our words can:
- Breathe life into someone’s faith.
- Restore their confidence.
- Reignite their hope.
That’s a huge responsibility.
And if we’re honest… how are we using our words?
Time to Reflect:
- Do you show self-control in what you say?
- Do you speak with intention, or do your words just “happen”?
- Do you believe your words carry power?
Because they do.
Proverbs says the tongue has the power of life and death.
And we know God’s heart is always to bring life.
Right now, at this very moment:
- Someone in your neighborhood is lost—and your words could help guide them.
- Someone in your family feels discouraged—and your words could encourage their spirit.
- Someone is barely holding on—and your words could bring them hope again.
Words Matter Physically Too:
Remember that water experiment we talked about in the video?
The idea that water responds to sound?
Now let this hit:
Over HALF of your body is made of water.
That means not only do words impact our emotions and spirit, but they physically affect us too.
Your tone, your intent, your attitude—they all carry weight.
So ask yourself:
- When I speak, do I see life rising up in people?
- If not, am I willing to pause, be quiet, and try again?
- Do I find it uncomfortable to encourage people?
- If so, how does this truth motivate me to get a little more bold with my words?
Discipline Starts with Awareness:
Controlling our tongue is hard.
The Bible says that.
But the first step toward discipline is simply being aware.
This week, let’s choose to become more aware of the words we use—
Because our mouths are some of the strongest weapons God has given us.
And guess what?
You carry that weapon with you everywhere.
Every conversation, every interaction, every moment—you have the ability to change things!
Prayer You Can Pray:
God, help me become more aware of the power of my words. Teach me to speak life, to encourage, to build up, and to use my voice for Your glory. Show me how to reflect Your heart with what I say—and how I say it. Amen.
Bottom Line:
Your words matter.
Use them like someone who believes in their power.
Because they were never meant to just fill the air—
They were meant to shift the atmosphere!
