ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE UNVEILS ETERNAL POWER
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
An eternal perspective has the power to transform how we live and endure life’s struggles. Hebrews 12 calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus, who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross. His focus on eternal victory, rather than temporary suffering, gave Him the strength to persevere.
Dallas Willard reminds us, “Sometimes we get caught up in trying to glorify God by praising what He can do, and we lose sight of the practical point of what He actually does do.” We often praise God for what He can do, yet we overlook the power He is already unleashing in our lives today. Living with an eternal perspective isn’t just about waiting for future promises, it’s about recognizing the ongoing power of God at work in our present circumstances. The power that helped Jesus endure the cross is the same power available to us to endure our own trials.
When we fix our eyes on Jesus and His eternal perspective, we are reminded that God’s power is not just for distant promises, but for the daily strength to run our race with perseverance. We can throw off distractions, endure hardships, and press forward, knowing that God’s eternal power is actively working in our lives right now.
CHALLENGE:
Place a visual reminder, such as a picture or scripture, that represents God’s eternal promises somewhere you’ll see it daily. Each time you encounter it, take a moment to shift your focus back to God’s eternal perspective and reflect on how it can empower you in the moment.
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Lean into this call to live with an eternal perspective, not just waiting for future promises, but actively recognizing God’s ongoing work in our lives. Pray and reflect on God’s power in every moment, trusting in His strength to help you endure.
