WHEN THE SUN STANDS STILL
“On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!” Joshua 10:12–14. (NIV)
Have you ever wished for more hours in the day? Between work, family, and other priorities, it can feel like there’s never enough time.
Now imagine Joshua’s situation: standing in the middle of a battle, completely dependent on God’s power to accomplish an impossible task. When Joshua prayed, God did something extraordinary—He stopped the sun and moon in their tracks. In that moment, God displayed His unshakeable power, ruling even over time and space.
This event isn’t just a story of divine intervention; it’s a reminder of who God is. He is sovereign over all creation, and His power is limitless. When we feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day, we can trust that God has everything under control. He doesn’t need more time. He can make the time we have sufficient when we align with His purpose.
Joshua’s prayer wasn’t just for personal gain—it was aligned with God’s mission. When we pray in line with His will, we tap into His limitless power. We don’t need to do it all ourselves—God fights for us.
CHALLENGE:
Take time this week to reflect on your prayer life. Are your prayers focused on your desires, or are they aligned with God’s Kingdom purpose? Commit to praying for God’s will to be done in specific areas of your life.
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Seek help from God to trust in His limitless power, especially when you feel overwhelmed by time or circumstances. Let Him remind you that He is sovereign over all things, including time itself.
