HOPE FOR AN ETERNAL FUTURE
“Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me.” Luke 9:23 (NIV)
The hope of eternity shapes and strengthens our daily lives, giving purpose, focus, and clarity. This hope requires action, courage, and sacrifice as we follow Jesus by denying ourselves and taking up our cross, a challenging path that leads to ultimate joy.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a 20th-century theologian and martyr, embodied this hope. As he faced execution in a Nazi concentration camp for his unwavering stand against evil, he declared, “This is the end—for me, the beginning of life.”
For Bonhoeffer, death was not a defeat but a passage to eternal life. His unshakeable trust in Jesus gave him the courage to embrace suffering and even death with peace, knowing that the promises of God were secure.
Bonhoeffer’s words remind us that the hope of eternity shapes how we live now. By denying ourselves and following Jesus, we walk in His kingdom and endure trials confidently, knowing God’s eternal promises outweigh any suffering.
