VICTORY IN JESUS
“Victory in Jesus, my Savior forever / He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood.” Bartlett, E.M. (1939) 'Victory In Jesus'
Eugene M. Bartlett Sr. wrote these powerful words in 1939 while confined to his bed after a stroke. Though his body was weak, his faith in Christ’s triumph was unshaken. Bartlett’s hymn declares that true victory is not defined by our circumstances but by the eternal hope we have in Jesus, who conquered sin and death on our behalf.
“The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, ‘Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!’ When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.” Joshua 6:16; 20 (NIV)
Centuries earlier, the Israelites stood before the towering walls of Jericho. To the human eye, their victory seemed impossible. Yet God’s instructions were clear: march, blow the trumpets, and shout; then trust that He would deliver the city into their hands. When the people obeyed in faith, the walls collapsed, and victory was theirs.
Both stories remind us that victory comes not through our strength but through faith in the Lord. Bartlett’s hymn and Jericho’s fall echo the same truth: our God is faithful to deliver His people, even when the odds are against us.
CHALLENGE:
What walls in your life feel unmovable? Like the Israelites, shout in faith and trust God’s power. Sing of the victory already won for you through Jesus—victory is not something we achieve, but something we receive through Him.
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Where are you fighting for victory on your own, only to hit a wall? While you have it in mind, listen to “See A Victory” by Elevation Worship. Declare God’s victory in your life and put your trust in Him.
