In this story, David calls for a census of the Israelite people. While this might not inherently seem wrong to you or me, God saw the pride in David’s heart which led him to this action. And while we can learn from the wrong in David’s life, we can also learn from what he did right: his repentance. Before the Lord punishes the people by sending a plague, we see David confessing that what he did was wrong and asking the Lord for forgiveness. Repentance is an acknowledgement of the sin in our life and an active turning away from it.
