God’s Word Endures

Acts 12:22-24
“They shouted, ‘This is the voice of a god not a man.’ Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God continued to increase and spread.”

The proud words of men who boast of their achievements and strength will be ultimately judged by God. When praised, the followers of Jesus Christ respond with gratitude but point the attention to God who gave us our life and gifts. It is God’s Word, not man’s, which will remain. As we spread God’s Word we give others an eternal source of truth which will produce good fruit in their lives. The contrast between Herod’s boastful words and untimely death, and the increasing spread of God’s Word have been repeated in every generation.

Jesus, you are the Living Word. Thank you that you uphold your word and that your promises are ‘yes’, in Christ.
