Generosity
Ecclesiastes 11:1-2
“Cast your bread upon the waters, but after many days you will find it again. Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.”
When we give generously to God’s work, we are sowing seeds of faith that will one day reap a harvest. Our investments in charity are actually investments in eternity, when we will ‘find it again’.
In a generation of instant gratification, can we give freely, even when our returns could be ‘many days’ away?
When we spread out our gifts, we bless many people. We demonstrate that all we have comes from God and we are only stewards of his wealth. Our lives are short and one day we will return to our Maker. Living wisely means living generously, knowing we can’t take anything with us when we leave the earth.
Lord Jesus, I cast my bread on the waters this day. Thank you that you will multiply it for your glory.
