Wisdom’s Banquet

Proverbs 9:1-4, 6
“Wisdom has built her house;…She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table…and she calls…‘Let all who are simple come in here!…Leave your simple ways…walk in the way of understanding.’”

Wisdom is not an exclusive club, it is an open banquet. The price of admission is humility, teachability and repentance. There is great food at this banquet and nourishment that satisfies. Wisdom is the capacity to learn from history (ours and others), and glean transferable principles that have life application. The inability to learn from history and make life applications leads to ‘simple ways’. As the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, we recognize that he is the Lord of the banquet. This is his meal and he has selected the courses. We can eat simple food through pride, fear of failure or stubbornness. Or we can enter God’s wisdom banquet and the way of understanding. Understanding why we are here on earth, who we are and what gives meaning to life.

Lord Jesus, I choose your wisdom this day and thank you for your invitation to learn of you.
