Sebelum kalian mengenal Kristus, kalian tidak punya harapan untuk menjadi warga kerajaan Allah, yaitu umat Israel yang baru secara rohani. Waktu itu kalian sama sekali tidak ikut ambil bagian dalam perjanjian-perjanjian Allah kepada umat-Nya, sehingga kalian hidup di dunia ini tanpa harapan dan tanpa mengenal Allah. Tetapi walaupun dulu kalian sangat jauh dari Allah, sekarang kalian sudah dibawa dekat kepada-Nya karena kalian bersatu dengan Kristus Yesus dan sudah disucikan melalui kurban darah-Nya.
