Kemudian datanglah api, tetapi TUHAN pun tidak berada di dalam api itu. Sesudah itu suasana menjadi senyap, lalu terdengar suatu suara yang kecil lembut. Ketika Elia mendengar suara itu, ia menutup mukanya dengan jubahnya, lalu keluar dan berdiri di mulut gua itu. Maka terdengarlah suara yang berkata, “Elia, sedang apa kau di sini?”
