Peace and Holiness
Hebrews 12:11, 14
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on however, it produces a harvest of peace and righteousness for those who have been trained by it…Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord.”
Peace is a quality of the Spirit that grows within us as we live in the discipline of the Lord. We surrender our will and repent of our passions and desires so that we are submitted to God’s will in each area of our lives. Peace is the fruit of that kind of pruning and husbandry. We are called to make every effort to live in peace with all men. Not only is peace a fruit of the Spirit in our lives that grows through discipline and discipleship, but peace is also a choice that we must make every day in all our relationships. We must make an effort to live in peace with all men. We must choose peaceful responses when we are criticized, ignored or undermined. Peace is a critical component of holiness. Holiness expresses itself in being set apart for God’s purposes – not our own. Often peace is undermined when our own desires and agendas and timelines push us into conflict with others. Living in holiness will foster tranquility of Spirit and peace in relationships.
Lord Jesus, you are my peace. Thank you for teaching me discipline in this area of my life – for your glory.
