Different Life: 6th CommandmentExemple

Sex and marriage are windows into a relationship with God. The Bible loves to use this kind of imagery. The desire of a young man to see a young woman become his wife shows what God’s passion, love, and devotion are like for us. We see how he thinks of us and how he wants us to think of him. We see his character, including his pain, when we betray him. Idolatry equates to adultery. Waiting for Christ’s return is equated to a couple longing for their wedding night.

Even worship can be understood this way. Think of it like a kiss. It is a moment of embrace between God and his lover. Sometimes, it is intense and passionate. Sometimes, it is conversational. Other times, it is playful. It should never be perfunctory or by the book. It should not be forced or manipulated. It is wonderful to anticipate and delightful when it is surprising. It both gives and receives; it expresses and generates love. It is an alluring, seductive moment yearning for a consummation soon to come.
