The Bible's Business Plan

DAY 19 OF 31

Ship your grain across the sea; after many days you may receive a return. Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land." Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 NIV

BUSINESS BIBLE

Luke’s Minas parable, Solomon’s venture investing, and Matthew’s Talents parable provide a complete set of investment Principles for angel investing, venture capital, and portfolio management. Solomon devotes twenty years to building the temple and the royal palace. Then he travels and dedicates himself to other business activities. He builds a fleet of ships on the shore of the Red Sea. He sends his men with sailors from Tyre to India and Africa, and every three years he receives return cargo including 420 talents of gold worth approximately $1 billion (USD) today. Whatever Solomon desires, he builds.[1]

According to Solomon, there is nothing better than finding enjoyment in work and the satisfaction it brings. His writings provide wise advice on how to make the most of life, with God at the center of business and life. After Solomon’s many experiences, his conclusion is that fearing God and keeping his commandments apply to all humankind.

Even Solomon cannot know what ventures will succeed. That is for God alone to determine and remains true today. Solomon demonstrates his wisdom by taking calculated investment risks.
