The Bible's Business Plan

DAY 12 OF 31

“Be strong and very courageous...This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will achieve success.” Joshua 1:7–8 NASB

BUSINESS BIBLE

In the book of Joshua, we witness the transition of Israel’s leadership from Moses to Joshua. Joshua’s leadership includes being a spokesperson for God, recording and administering the Law, commanding the army, and dividing the promised land as an inheritance for the people of Israel. He executes these duties faithfully throughout his lifetime. In a farewell address to the people, he states, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”[1].

In Hebrew culture, a “house” includes immediate family, relatives, hired workers, and servants. For Joshua, it includes all those who are under his authority and stewardship in his personal and family business. Joshua’s statement has greater business significance when we understand that a household encompasses all its working people. Joshua is restating God’s original command to affirm that his household will work and contribute to God’s Economy.

Joshua and Israel are blessed in their work as they journey through the desert and enter the promised land.

[1]Joshua 24:14–15

PRAY
