What Do You Know About Pickles?
Day 1 was about pizza. Now pickles?
Not your ordinary dill pickles, though. Today, you’ll learn about helping someone who’s in a pickle. What does that mean? (Good question. Glad you asked.)
If someone has a problem, people say, “They’re in a pickle!” For example: If you left your lunch at home and were really hungry, you’d be in a pickle. And you’d probably wish you had a pickle!
Sadly, many people are “in a pickle.” As followers of Jesus, we get to serve others to help them get out of a pickle! So, what kind of pickles do people find themselves in?
People don’t always have enough of what they need, like food, clothes, or safe places to live. People might be lonely and need good friends. People may not know the forgiveness and love Jesus offers them.
Thankfully, there are lots of ways to help people get out of pickles like that! In fact, God has given you talents, skills, and a mind that can think of ways to help and serve others. How do you think you could help others?
Watch this video where some pickles will help you think of ideas!
Maybe that video gave you some great ideas. Maybe you’re already coming up with more ideas to help people get out of a pickle. That’s awesome! Everyone should use the gifts and abilities God gave them to serve others.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Actually, I’m in a pickle right now. I have some real problems I’m facing, and it’s not easy.” If that’s you, then today’s your day to reach out.
God’s big family helps one another, and they can help you! Talk to a parent, a leader at your church, a teacher, a friend, or any trusted adult you can think of. Tell them the problems you’re facing. You don’t have to face them alone. God sees you, and His Holy Spirit is right there with you. He can help you find the right person to talk to, and He will never leave your side.
Don’t forget: Today, you get to read Matthew 22:37-39 again! The NIV translation of that Bible verse might look pretty familiar to you now. Soon, the surprise will be revealed!(Have you peeked? You better not peek!)
Pray: God, thank You for helping me to think of ways I can serve and help others. Thank You for being with me when I’m having problems, too. Help me to reach out when I need help and to help others when I can. In Jesus’ name, amen.
