Life's Big Questions: Devotions From Time Of GraceSample

What’s wrong with our world?
God made people to be bright, ambitious, creative, and restless. It’s only natural that people would invest huge amounts of energy into making their lives better by controlling their environment. For a while people can sustain the illusion that the world is getting better and better all the time. Technological innovation brings greater personal comfort, wealth, and speed of travel and communication.
So why aren’t people evolving into better human beings? Why is there so much violence, racism, crime, abuse, and hatred? What’s wrong with our world? The Bible helps us see the terribly corrosive power of sin as it is transmitted from one generation to another. We are not evolving into better people. We are devolving: “For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God” (Romans 8:19-21).
You and I can’t stop that universal bondage to decay. But Jesus did. By His amazing incarnation and work, He reconnected God and humanity. All who trust and believe in Him will enjoy personal forgiveness and restoration, first in part, then fully.
What a thrill it will be for all who have experienced that bondage to decay to be allowed to see Christ’s astonishing re-creation of a new heaven and new earth.
