Bible Reflections From Scripture Union Volume One

DAY 46 OF 181

Who is Like Our God? Read Micah 7:1-20 But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 When God judges, the evildoers and the rebels shall not be spared. His judgment will be on those who disobey Him. Here, there is a complete breakdown of law and order. Social disintegration, violence and treachery follow. However God’s punishment shall be temporary. If God’s people repent and seek His forgiveness, He will lift them up again and restore them. God will be merciful. He will show His wonders again and the nations will marvel and turn to Him in fear. Asia witnessed the complete breakdown of law and order during the cultural revolution in China when the Red Guards took control and in Cambodia during the reign of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Untold suffering and human atrocities were inflicted on the populace. Family members betrayed one another to the authorities. Millions perished. The people were gripped by fear and treachery. Micah paints such a scenario of the children of Israel in this chapter. Is there hope for the evildoers? The answer is a resounding “Yes!” God does not stay angry forever. He pardons sin and forgives the transgressors (v 18). That is the essence of the Gospel. He will once again show forth His wonders and strength. All the nations will be awed and turn to Him. They will even fear God’s people. God is full of compassion and He delights to show mercy. If there is true repentance, God forgives. He is a covenant keeping God and what He has promised He will fulfil. God is not a man that He should lie. He keeps His promises. Who is like our God? There is truly none like Him. Do we view sin with the same degree of gravity that God does? Pray that we will keep short accounts before God. If we sin, let us be quick to repent and seek His forgiveness.
