Bible Reflections From Scripture Union Volume One

DAY 45 OF 181

Plead Your Case Read Micah 6:1-16 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 God reminds His people of what He had done for them in the past. He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt and brought them into the Promised Land. However, God’s people rebelled against Him and violated His laws and commands. They indulged in idol worship and practised dishonesty and deceitfulness in their trade practices and conduct. God had to chastise and punish His people. What God required of them was that they act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with Him. It is a fact that we have very short memories about God’s blessings and dealings in our lives. We are no different from the children of Israel. We have to be constantly reminded so that we will continue to remain grateful to Him and seek to obey and serve Him. God is not interested in lavish sacrifices or outward forms of piety and worship. We may be able to deceive others but we cannot deceive God. God is looking for obedience. God puts a very high premium on justice, mercy and humility in our conduct and behaviour. These qualities must be evident in every aspect of our lives. God is righteous and so He demands of His children honesty, integrity and humility in all their conduct. God is equally concerned about our business practices in the market place and how we treat others as He is with our verbal profession of faith. For a Christian, outward behaviour is the true measure of what has transpired in actuality on the inside. How does the realisation that God is looking at how we conduct our business and relate with others cause us to do them differently? If we stubbornly choose to disobey God’s commands, we should not be surprised if we face God’s chastisement and judgement. God, please help me to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable to You.
