Starting Your Journey

DAY 3 OF 6

3rd day

Who is Holy Spirit and why do I need Him?

The Holy Spirit is God's Agency on earth. Without Holy Spirit in your life, you will struggle to make your journey with Jesus a success. First of all, Holy Spirit is NOT an "it", a "cosmic force", a "wind" or even a "sensation", and most definitely not an "inner conscience". Holy Spirit is a Person and He has a personality, a will, a desire, and a voice. He is the third member of the Trinity, but by no means is He the least, nor the One that we should forget. He is just as much God as the Father and the Son. The Bible gives us a couple of descriptions of roles that He has in our lives as followers of Christ.

Jesus said He will be our Comforter, Helper, Teacher, Reminder, Convictor, Counselor, Power, Love, and Sound mind. He will supply us with Truth, Grace, and prayers. And so much more. The Presence of the Holy Spirit is the reality of God in your life. Holy Spirit is the One who will make sure your salvation is not in vain. To get to know the voice of Holy Spirit is probably the most crucial thing you need to do as a follower of Christ. The Bible says that Holy Spirit will be your seal of redemption, meaning when you receive Holy Spirit in your life, your salvation has the personal approval stamp of God Himself. When He sees the presence of Holy Spirit in your life, He will receive you into His eternal Kingdom.

Holy Spirit is the One who reveals to you your identity as a child of God. He is the One who will help you to remove all the lies that the devil has placed in your mind over the years, and He will help you to replace them with the truth of God's Word. He will assist you in your weaknesses and walk the journey with you so that you can be free from sin and not entangled by it any longer. Holy Spirit will do so much more with you, in you, and through you.

Jesus said in Acts 1:8 that He will give you the power of the Holy Spirit for a very specific purpose. The purpose of witnessing. Jesus gave you the Holy Spirit to help you testify and witness to other people of the work God has done in you and how He has changed your life. One of the early writers of the Bible, the apostle Paul, said that we should not vex or grieve the Holy Spirit. This means that we shouldn't disobey the voice of Holy Spirit because He guides us closer to God. He only has our best interests at heart. Holy Spirit has become your companion for the rest of your life, and He will always be with you.

Holy Spirit is the difference between Christianity "as just a religion" and Christianity "as a relationship."
