Faith That Grows in Every Season

DAY 4 OF 10

BEAUTY FROM ASHES:

Forest fires make headline news each year and leave behind a trail of unimaginable destruction. Trained firefighters work day and night to contain the raging flames, but wind and extremely dry conditions can make their efforts seem futile.

Seasonal fires may ravage and destroy, but what takes place in the months and years that follow is truly amazing. Over time, new life begins to emerge. Tiny green saplings struggle to the surface, feeding off the nutrient-filled soil left from the wake of the fire. Ashes from the fire fertilize the ground, making it a catalyst for rich new growth.

Sometimes difficult life experiences can make us feel like we’re standing in the middle of a forest fire. The heat and tension can be all-consuming. Amid the chaos and turmoil, it is difficult to see how anything good could arise from the ashes… and yet that’s exactly what God does.

In His sovereignty, God uses the very ashes from the torched and torn fragments of our lives to foster rich, new growth. Difficulties strengthen our character, fortify our resolve, and enhance our capacity for compassion.

Nothing is wasted in God’s economy. He uses every bit of our ancient ruins to rebuild, restore, and renew that which was once devastated.

REFLECTION:

What new life have you seen brought forth after an intense season of struggle or strife?

What beauty did God bring from those ashes?

PRAYER:

Lord, thank you for the reminder that what may appear dead to me is fertile ground for you to bring forth hope and new life. Amen.

About this Plan

Faith That Grows in Every Season

Throughout our faith journey, we go through seasons of growth. Some growth is visible; it can be seen and felt. Other growth is hidden beneath the surface; it may not be as readily seen or felt, but it’s equally important. God ordains different seasons to build and strengthen our faith. He gives us plenty of experiences, opportunities, and grace; but whether we allow life’s ever-changing seasons to grow us is up to us. Develop steadfast faith that grows in every season.
