Lies of the Heart

DAY 6 OF 6

King Hezekiah was defeated before the battle even began according to human eyes. He and his people stood no chance against the Assyrian army. The Assyrians were undefeated, merciless, and feared by every nation they set out to conquer. Fear spread through the city of Jerusalem like wildfire, and it weighed most heavily on King Hezekiah, who carried the responsibility of his people’s lives. And yet, in the midst of all the fear and hopelessness, the Lord sent Isaiah with a message. The answer to this seemingly impossible situation wasn’t found in weapons, strategy, or numbers. The answer was simple but powerful: prayer and faith.

This was not the first time God had spoken this message to His people. Over and over again, He reminded the kings of Israel and Judah to stand firm in faith and not give in to fear. Sadly, many of them failed the test. Instead of trusting in God, they leaned on their own understanding, making alliances with other nations or trusting in idols to rescue them. Hezekiah, however, chose differently. His confidence was not in himself but in the living God who had never failed His people.

Although our circumstances today look very different than Hezekiah’s, the truth of Isaiah 7:9 still applies. If we do not stand firm in our faith, we will not stand at all. Faith is not passive. It is not something we simply claim one time and then move on with life. Living by faith means we are actively choosing, day by day and moment by moment, to believe God’s Word over every lie the enemy tries to whisper.

This is where the real battle takes place—not out on a physical battlefield, but in our minds and hearts. Satan wants nothing more than for us to crumble under the weight of fear, doubt, and lies. He whispers that we are not strong enough, that our situation is too hopeless, that God has forgotten us. But God calls us to recognize those lies for what they are and to reject them. Then, He calls us to replace those lies with His truth.

At first, this may feel exhausting. You may have to declare God’s truth fifty times a day—or more! Every time fear rises up, you answer with God’s promises. Every time doubt comes, you choose to stand firm in faith. And while it is not easy, this daily practice is where true victory is found. The battles may be small, but every time you choose faith over fear, you are standing stronger. Over time, this way of living becomes liberating. You no longer live under the weight of defeat but in the freedom and security that comes from trusting in the Lord.

Reflection Question: What specific lie do you need to reject today, and what truth from God’s Word will you speak over your life instead?
