Lies of the Heart

DAY 4 OF 6

In the New Living Translation, Genesis 3:6 says, “The woman was convinced.” That line has always stood out to me. If Eve—who lived in a perfect world, in perfect communion with God—could be convinced to believe a lie, how much easier it is for us in this fallen and broken world to be led astray. Satan has not updated his strategy. He does not need to. The same tricks he used on Eve are the same ones he uses on us today. He appeals to our doubts, our desires, and our wounds, and he whispers lies that sound believable enough for us to start questioning what God has already spoken.

When those lies take root, they do not just live quietly in the background. They seep into how we think, how we feel, and how we react to the people around us. Without realizing it, we begin to live as though the lies are true. They become the lens we filter life through, and eventually, we stop even questioning them. We can get so accustomed to them that they feel normal—just “the way things are.” But that is exactly how the enemy wants it. Because if he can get us to believe a lie long enough, we won’t even see it as a lie anymore.

Here is the tricky part: Satan can use completely different life experiences to drive us to believe the same lies. One person can grow up with very little, and another grow up with plenty, yet both can still come to believe they are not enough. One person feels deeply loved, another feels overlooked, and yet Satan whispers to both: “You’re not truly secure.” His playbook is not creative, but it is persistent. He recycles the same lies over and over because they work.

But here is the good news: what you believe in your heart matters far more than the circumstances around you. What takes root in your heart will eventually shape your life. That is why God cares so much about your heart—He sees what no one else sees. He knows the hidden fears, doubts, and lies that even the people closest to you cannot detect. And He wants to replace every single one of them with His truth.

God does not want you to live trapped in deception. He wants you to know what is true about Him and what is true about you. He wants your devotion to Him to be “sincere and pure,” just as Paul writes in 2 Corinthians. When you learn to believe with your heart that God’s Word is true—when you anchor yourself in His promises—you begin to live free. Healing comes not from ignoring lies, but from exposing them to the light of God’s truth and choosing to believe Him instead.

So today, I encourage you to ask God to reveal the lies you have been believing, maybe without even realizing it. Do not be afraid of what He might show you. The same God who sees the depths of your heart is the same God who loves you deeply and longs to heal you completely. He does not expose lies to shame you—He exposes them so He can set you free.

Reflection Question: What lie has Satan convinced you is true based on your circumstances, and what does God’s Word say is actually true about you?
