This is Eternal Life

If we’ve been born again, we belonged to God long before that happened and even before we were created.

According to Scripture, we have been chosen by God and therefore belong to him. We have been bought with a price (the precious blood of Christ) and have no obligation to this evil world because our bodies and spirits belong to God. That’s when he wrote his law upon our hearts and miraculously gave us a willingness to follow Jesus. He caused us to want to walk in his statutes[HL1]. We couldn’t even come to Jesus without God drawing us to himself as it says in John 6:44, and neither could we repent without his assistance.

We are like a blind worm that has been lifted from the dirt and held in the hand of God, and even as Christians, we are still limited in our knowledge of the eternal. If asked for a definition of eternal life, we would probably say that it is perpetual life. But in John 17:3, we have the biblical definition of what it is.

Jesus said that eternal life isn’t a thing. It’s knowledge of a person. It doesn’t exist outside of God. And when he fellowships with us, we have everlasting life in that relationship. It is a marriage.

Prayer: Father, without your grace, I would still be sitting in the shadow of death. Words cannot express my thanks to you for having saved me.
