Great Is Your Faithfulness

DAY 18 OF 30

Faithful to Fulfill His Purpose

Sometimes we minimalize the day-to-day-ness of God's involvement in our lives. While I'm not certain God cares if my Sooners beat Texas this year or if I grab a top-notch parking spot at the grocery store, He is indeed attentive to the otherwise minute details of my daily life. There are too many teachings in His Word to deny God's concerns for your day's activities.

Throughout Scripture you'll find encounters that humans have had with The God Who Sees. Consider Sarah's servant, Hagar, whom she sent in to be intimate with her husband Abraham. (Nobody can say that Scripture is boring or leaves out the gory details!) Can you imagine how betrayed and used Hagar had to have felt? While this may have been a somewhat common, yet not approved by God, practice in their culture, Sarah was so driven by God's promise of a child, that she took matters into her own hands. She pulled innocent bystander, yet obligated servant, Hagar into the mix, only to despise her when the hoax actually produced a child.

Pregnant Hagar was so shunned by barren Sarah, she actually fled from her to the desert. It's recorded in Genesis 16 how the angel of the Lord, soon to be revealed as God Himself, found Hagar and called her by name, instructed her to return to Sarah's home, and submit to her service once again. In exchange for her obedience, God assured her He would multiply her descendants. And this encounter left her acknowledging the great God of the ages as The God Who Sees.

Rocky life beginnings don't define your destiny; God does. He is The God Who Sees. He sees you. He has a plan for that messy lineage, or the challenges you grapple with in your health, your mind, your family.

Here's a quick testimony from my friend Hollie who shared about her own experience with our purpose-fulfilling God:

"My second child was a hard baby up until she was five years old. Really hard. Through my mother-in-law, and later some other people, we discovered our daughter had Sensory Processing Dysfunction. She was induced four weeks early and was so severely jaundiced at birth, she could have died if a nurse didn't overstep her medical training and give me motherly advice to take her to the hospital.
With all that, our daughter struggled in school and had a hard time reading and writing for many years. I remember in high-school she picked up writing pretty on cards and was so proud of how far she had come.
After she graduated high school, she decided to move away, lived with her brother for a year, and now lives on her own. She got a job at a coffee shop that is also a ministry to the kids in the small community. She started tutoring the kids this year and a teacher from the school came over and told her, since she started tutoring, their reading has skyrocketed! My heart was bursting, thinking of all the tears shed, thinking I was going to ruin this girl, how I couldn't teach her. I have seen how God orchestrated all the people in my life who gave me ideas and encouragement to keep going so she could teach those kids who struggle to read like she did. Now, she's contemplating how God can use her more. God is faithful to fulfill His purposes."

Dig a Little Deeper

If we aren't careful, we don't grant God permission to meddle in the daily details of our lives. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal an area in your life where He would like to be more involved. It's quite possible that He has a solution for a situation that has puzzled or even frustrated you! God sees and cares about your life's happenings.
