30 Days of Praying for Children and Families

DAY 17 OF 30

You can imagine there were various moments in Joseph’s life where he might have cried out to God, ‘why is this happening?’

And he was justified in doing so! He’d faced injustice, rejection, and humiliation.

But in Genesis 50, we hear a different story. As he looks back on his tumultuous life, his brothers’ betrayal when they sold him into slavery, and the Lord’s faithfulness throughout, he begins to see that God had a plan throughout.

“You [his brothers] intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20, NIV)

God turned Joseph’s life upside down. What his brother had intended for harm, God flipped around and uses for good. Not only restoring Joseph but using him as a vehicle for God’s grace in saving many lives during the famine in Egypt.

Out of the ashes of human sin and corruption, God creates something beautiful. He didn’t intend the suffering Joseph endured, but he used it for greater things.

There are many circumstances that make us wonder what good God could bring out of the pain. Thank God that his plan is greater than we can imagine.

Prayer

Take a moment to praise God for the adoptive families who have provided a new home and hope for children.

Thank him that he took the instability and trauma in their early years and has brought them into a place of security and hope.

Ask God to work his purposes in the lives of children who are waiting for homes – that they might be placed in stable, nurturing homes where they can flourish.
