Jesus: The True Light of the WorldSample

I’m sure you’ve heard of the "two kinds of people" memes and jokes. For example, in a classroom, I sometimes ask, "How many of you are morning people?" Several put up their hands. Then I ask, "How many of you are evening people?" Others raise their hands. Then I say, "How many of you are not people at all?" And there's always a smile across the room.
But these "two kinds of people" explanations are just convenient ways of simplifying and generalizing the human race. In fact, there is only one kind of person to begin with.
We were all born with a constitutional defect. But you can become another kind of person. This doesn’t have to be a permanent situation. You are not stuck. You can be "unstuck" because of the WorldLight. I will unpack this theme over the next few days. As you can see, I’ve removed the hyphen and put the two words together to make it a compound word. In English, it’s called the "trend of the disappearing hyphen." Two complete words are joined together for emphasis, force, and memory.
This idea of the World Light comes from the Gospel of John. Our primary text for this plan will be John 1:9.
This verse is set in the context of John 1:1-8, the theological development of the Word. It is followed by an offer to the human race in the person of the Word, who becomes flesh.
In verse 9, John the Gospel writer says, “There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.” (John 1:9, NASB95)
Join me for this reading plan as the apostle John introduces us to this true Light, the World Light—Jesus Christ.
