The Passion

DAY 12 OF 57

When my youngest son was a preppie, he was full of questions: “Why is this…?”, “What’s that?”, “How come…?”, “Where are we going?” His curiosity came from a genuine desire to understand the world around him and to find answers to what he didn’t yet know.

In contrast, the Sadducees in this passage approached Jesus with a question about the resurrection—not out of a sincere desire to learn, but to trap and ridicule Him, since they didn’t believe in resurrection themselves.

But Jesus would not be made a fool. With divine insight, He answers their challenge by affirming the reality of life after death and reveals that the resurrection life is not simply a continuation of how life is done on earth, but a far greater and richer experience unburdened by the complexities of human relationships. And we can be assured of this because the God we believe has shown and declared that He is the God of the living and not the dead!

Jesus is the resurrection, and our faith in Him gives us confidence that we can walk through our earthly days knowing our eternal future is assured with Him. Therefore, we don’t need to live with a ‘Sadducee disbelief’ of a resurrection hope. May that give us courage, peace, and strength to live with purpose every single day.

Today, ponder this: What does it mean for you today that God is the God of the living? And how might resurrection hope give you courage, peace, or purpose in your circumstances, whether your today is hard, uncertain, or ordinary?

About this Plan

The Passion

Journey along through Matthew chapters 21 - 28, tracing Jesus’ final days from His entry into Jerusalem to His resurrection. Each devotion unpacks the urgency, sacrifice, and triumph of Christ’s mission, revealing the depth of God’s love and the cost of redemption. Reflect on the Last Supper, Gethsemane, the cross, and the empty tomb whilst encountering Jesus in His suffering and ultimate glory. Whether preparing for Easter or seeking a fresh perspective, The Passion seeks to stir hearts to know Jesus and make Jesus known with hope, boldness, and passion.
