When Hope Hurts: Miscarriage and Faith

DAY 2 OF 7

God, how are You loving me right now?

Miscarrying means that you are not only dealing with the intense emotional pain from the absence of the child growing inside of you, but also the dashed expectations. Sadly, you are also dealing with the cruel physical reminder of the miscarriage…the bleeding and the physical pain.

With these physical reminders, it can be difficult to see the evidence of God’s presence. You may have even asked whether God is with you in the pain.

I encourage you to ask, “God, how are You loving me right now?” He will show you another dimension of His character: a God who weeps with you and intercedes for you.

Today’s scriptures may not typically be associated with miscarriage, but they remind us of what Lamentations 3:22 (NKJV) says, which states that it is by the mercies of God that we are not consumed.

Moses’ encounter with God through the burning bush, a bush that was not consumed, is a picture for us. When we go through trials, we may feel like we are burning… but we are not consumed. We survive because we are in the very presence of God.

The same is true for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. They were not consumed because there was a fourth man in the fire with them… and that fourth man is said to be the Son of God, Jesus.

So how is God loving you in this season?
His love is His presence…even in the fire.
It’s the fact that you are still here, despite the loss and the pain.
You have not been consumed.

About this Plan

When Hope Hurts: Miscarriage and Faith

Miscarriage is a wound that is often carried in silence, but with a heart full of questions. In this devotional, I share a journey of two miscarriages and the lament, doubt, faith and the hope that followed. Whether you’ve experienced a miscarriage or are walking alongside someone who has, I pray that through honest lament and hope restored, you will encounter the God who sees, heals and rebuilds from the ruins.
