Faith Formation Framework Series 5: Faith Prioritized by the Entire Faith Community and LeadershipSample

Investing in the Next Generation
Focus
Mindfulness: Picture yourself planting seeds that others will water, and God will grow.
Listen
Scripture: Psalm 145:4 (NRSV)
"One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts."
Reflection:
Building a thriving church community means looking far beyond today’s attendance numbers or programs. It requires planting seeds in young people—seeds that may not bloom immediately or bear fruit in our congregations. But our work now can bear fruit in their lives for years to come. Investing in youth is not simply about keeping them entertained; it’s about walking with them in discipleship, teaching them the ways of Jesus, and trusting God to grow their faith over time. This work is patient, slow, and holy. It is the work of generations building up generations.
Apply
What “seed” might you plant this week to encourage a young person’s long-term faith?
Respond
Lord of every generation, give us patience and vision. Help us sow seeds of faith, trusting you to bring the growth in your perfect time.

About this Plan

Young people thrive most fully in their faith when the whole church embraces and empowers them. In this final part of the Faith Formation Framework, we explore how faith communities can reimagine church life so that youth are not just included, but prioritized. From leadership and worship to belonging and justice, every part of the life of a faith community can and should be shaped with young people in mind. When we center youth, we don’t lose our identity—we remember it. A thriving church is one where every generation grows together in love.
