GOD, ME & MY TEENS!

DAY 5 OF 7

Why Keep the Words of Jesus in our Heart?

“Accept instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart.” Job 22:22 (NIV)

“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:9-11 (NIV)

The Bible says that our heart is deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9). So why should we keep the words of Jesus in it? The words of Jesus give us strength, comfort, and vigor, and they are also clear and direct. We must fill our hearts with the truth that comes only from God. The heart becomes deceitful when we fill it with things that do not come from heaven, and we end up believing lies that the evil one places in our minds, corrupting our hearts.

Surrendering our hearts to God and protecting them from sin means entrusting to Him the treasures that flow from within us.

Let’s say to Him:
“Father, take care of my heart, teach me Your words, and I will keep them so that I may not sin against You. I want to be guided by Your Word, which is light and protects me from sin! I thank You, Lord, for granting me the treasures that come from Your heart. I give You my heart, and I will protect and guard it. Amen!”
