House of David, Season 2: Trusting God in the Middle of the Story

DAY 9 OF 30

You Can Go To Bed

Sleep is one of the most vulnerable things we do. When you close your eyes at night, you give up control. You can’t fight battles, solve problems, or keep watch. You simply rest.

That’s why David’s words are so remarkable. This is a man who lived with constant threats—from wild animals as a shepherd, from Saul’s jealousy as a young warrior, from enemies as Israel’s king. Yet David could say with confidence, “I will lie down and sleep.” His peace didn’t come from locked doors, strong armies, or perfect circumstances. His peace came from knowing the Lord Himself was his safety.

We often believe peace will come once everything around us finally settles—when the bills are paid, the conflict is resolved, or the future feels certain. But true peace isn’t the absence of problems. It’s the presence of God.

Tonight, you can rest—not because life is simple, but because God is faithful. He doesn’t slumber, so you can.

Reflection Question: What worry do you need to release to God tonight so you can actually rest?
