Coming to Life: 30-Day DevotionalSample

The Promise
The story of redemption moves quickly from creation and fall to the call of Abraham. In Genesis 12, God makes a promise that changes the course of history: He will make Abraham into a great nation, give him a land, and through him, bless all the nations of the earth. This promise becomes the backbone of the entire biblical story.
Abraham was not chosen because of his greatness but because of God’s grace. He left his homeland, not knowing where he was going, and trusted God’s word. In Genesis 15, when God told him to look at the stars, Abraham believed, and it was counted to him as righteousness. Faith — simple, trusting belief — became the marker of God’s people.
The promise went beyond land, descendants, and blessing. In Genesis 22, after Abraham’s willingness to offer Isaac, God reaffirmed His covenant: through Abraham’s offspring, all nations would be blessed. Paul later explains in Galatians that this “offspring” is ultimately Christ. The promise to Abraham was, at its heart, a promise of Jesus.
What began as a covenant with one man pointed to salvation for the whole world. In Christ, the blessing of Abraham reaches Jew and Gentile alike. The faith of Abraham becomes the pattern for our own faith: believing God’s word and trusting His promise even when we cannot see.
The thread of Jesus is already visible here. He is the promised seed who will bring blessing to the nations. He is the fulfillment of God’s covenant love. And just as Abraham trusted God’s promise, we too are called to trust in Christ, the One in whom all the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20).
From the beginning, God has been weaving a story not only of creation and fall but of promise and redemption. His plan is not reactionary; it is purposeful. The promise to Abraham reminds us that God has always had a plan to redeem His people through His Son.
Reflection Questions
- How does Abraham’s faith encourage you to trust God’s promises in your own life?
- What does it mean to you that the blessing of Abraham is fulfilled in Christ and extends to all nations?
Prayer
Faithful God, thank You for the promise You gave to Abraham, a promise that points to Jesus. Thank You that in Him, I share in the blessing of Your covenant love. Strengthen my faith to trust You when I cannot see, and help me to walk in obedience like Abraham. May my life reflect Your faithfulness to the world around me. Amen.
