Coming to Life: 30-Day DevotionalSample

Coming to Life: 30-Day Devotional

DAY 12 OF 30

Wisdom from Above

The wisdom literature of the Bible wrestles with life’s deepest questions. Proverbs teaches that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, calling us to trust God in all our ways. Ecclesiastes reflects on the fleeting nature of life, reminding us that everything has a season and that meaning is found only in God. Job confronts the mystery of suffering, ultimately pointing to a Redeemer who lives.

Wisdom in Scripture is not simply knowledge or cleverness. It is skill in living according to God’s design. It acknowledges that God is God and we are not. It teaches humility, trust, and dependence.

James carries this wisdom forward in the New Testament: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God.” True wisdom comes from above, not from human reasoning alone. It is a gift of God, available to all who seek Him.

Ultimately, wisdom points us to Christ. Paul writes that Jesus has become for us “wisdom from God” (1 Corinthians 1:30). He embodies perfect wisdom — living in reverence to the Father, trusting fully in Him, and navigating life with truth and grace. In Him, the riddles of life and suffering find their resolution.

When we face seasons of confusion or pain, the wisdom books remind us to trust God’s sovereignty and seek His guidance. We may not always understand, but we can lean on the One who does. Wisdom is not about having every answer but about knowing the One who is faithful.

Reflection Questions

  1. Which wisdom book — Proverbs, Job, or Ecclesiastes — speaks most to your current season of life? Why?
  2. How can you more intentionally seek wisdom from God in your daily decisions?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that true wisdom comes from You. Teach me to live in reverence before You, to trust You with all my heart, and to seek Your guidance in every season. Thank You for Jesus, who is wisdom from above. Help me to walk in His ways. Amen.
