DAY 7 OF 30

The Tabernacle

1445 BC

Books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy

~ Before the Tabernacle was constructed, Israel had no focus or structure for priests, worship, or the forgiveness of their sins.

One central tenet of the Law was God’s detailed blueprint for His ordained place of worship in Israel’s camp. The descriptions of size, color, and furnishings were rich with meaning. These mandates included sacrifices for sin and offerings of thanksgiving. God Himself anointed overseers to direct the work and skilled craftsmen to fashion each portion, ensuring everything was made according to His plan. In this holy dwelling, Adonai’s manifest presence literally rested among the tribes of Israel.

~ After the construction of the Tabernacle in the wilderness, this design was carried into Israel’s place of worship all the way through the destruction of the Second Temple in AD 77.

Significance

  • God has always desired to live among us.
  • We know from the New Testament that the Tabernacle was constructed based on a heavenly design! I wonder what the Lord would show us if we asked Him for His blueprints for building families, communities, or the Church.
  • There is a gorgeous balance of beauty and order in the construction of the Tabernacle. When we purposefully integrate and balance beauty/artistry with order/practicality, peace flows into our lives.
  • As those who are in Christ, we now understand that our bodies host the presence of God through the Holy Spirit. We are His living Temple—individually and corporately. Let us pause and think reverently.
