21 Days of Prayer; a Devotion on JohnSample

John 8 | “I don’t condemn you – go leave your life of sin”
There is something that only Jesus can do – there is something only we can do. Only he can absolve us of our sin, only we can obey and walk away from our sin. We cannot absolve our own sin, he cannot over-ride our will to make us leave our sin. Forgiving is his gift, leaving sin is our responsibility.
But the command Jesus gives, to go and leave your life of sin, suggests they have the capacity to comply. Jesus doesn’t imply it is easy, but we can infer it is possible. What sin are you struggling with in your life? Jesus is ready and willing to forgive when we look to him. Forgiveness is what he does. But we must address what we confess, and walk away from, rather than walk in this sin. And the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus has given us, is with us to help us.
