Day 3: Building on a Solid Foundation

Have you ever heard the quote “You don’t rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your training”?

This idea conveys that when trials come into your life you don’t merely adapt to it in the moment, but rather you fall back or rely on previous experience you’ve had to overcome it. But what happens when life hits you with something you’ve never prepared for?

In the New Testament, Jesus speaks of this very idea says that anyone who hears his words and practices them will is like a man who built his on rock. When we build our lives upon who Jesus is and centering our lives upon it, we have a support system that no storm can knock over and no trial that can tear down.

It’s important to remember that this foundation doesn’t just show up out of nowhere. It takes intentional time and effort coming to know who Jesus is and what exactly he has to offer. Reading scripture and spending time in prayer daily are ways to build that foundation. Life can be difficult but with Jesus as our Savior there is nothing we can’t overcome. You don’t rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your foundation.
