The Treasures of Hebrews

DAY 1 OF 13

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son…” (Hebrews 1:1 ESV)

This letter is written in an enthusiastic style. In one sentence, the writer introduces the main character: Jesus Christ, the Son. He connects Jesus with all the ancient fathers and prophets.

The Son is the exact image of God; they are identical. The glory of God expresses how beautiful and fascinating God is as a person. It is through the Son that we have been forgiven our sins. Thereafter, He assumed His position at the right hand of God. This is why He is clothed in power and majesty. This is divine dignity. This dignity surpasses the honour of the angels. Jesus is more than that. He is the Son of God Himself. His throne will last forever.

The author quickly gets to the heart of his message. Hebrews 1 summarises the content of the entire letter. Jesus is always at the centre. He is the message that God brings. When God speaks, He always does so through Jesus. We must hold fast to what we have heard. The Old Testament, through the prophets, the psalms, and other writings, already provides insight into the identity of Jesus. That is the focus of the remainder of the letter. We are living in a good time. Thanks to Jesus, we can get to know God better than ever before. Do not turn away from God by ignoring these words of salvation.

The Letter to the Hebrews addresses the core of the Christian faith. Jesus Christ is central. What do you expect from Jesus?
