Lessons From JonahSample

JONAH'S CHOICE
Jonah chapter 1 is a very full chapter. The Word comes to Jonah, he rebels, and he runs from God. He brings his sin, bitterness, and rebellion into someone else's boat, bringing his disaster into their life. While they want to save him, he isn’t willing to change. Eventually, they give up on rescuing the man who doesn’t want to be rescued and throw him (and the chaos he brought) out of their boat. But even in the chaos, God still had a plan.
Here are some highlights from today’s video:
- When God calls, we still have a choice to obey or disobey.
- Unforgiveness hardens a heart.
- Sin brings separation.
- Choices have collateral damage; they affect everyone around us.
- You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.
- There is a difference between helping someone change and helping them so they don’t have to change.

About this Plan

Jonah is one of my favorite Bible stories. It's a small and rich story with only four small chapters; it doesn’t take long, but it is filled with powerful lessons for us today. We are going to spend four days reading through the book of Jonah together, pulling lessons from the life and story of Jonah.
