5 Cornerstones of Godly Leadership

DAY 4 OF 5

Leaders Communicate Effectively

Words shape worlds. Barking orders doesn’t create a leader. Instead, I’ve learned that leadership is about building people. Words can build up or tear down. A poorly timed comment or dismissive tone can unravel hours—or years—of work. I lead by asking great questions and listening with intentionality. Ephesians 4:29 tells me to use words that build up and give grace. In the real estate world, miscommunication can cost deals. In the kingdom, it can cost relationships.

I used to think being a leader meant always having the right answer. But I’ve discovered that one of the most powerful tools in leadership is listening. When I slowed down and truly heard what my team or clients were saying, trust deepened and results improved.

One moment that changed my perspective was during a tough team meeting where emotions ran high. Instead of defending my position, I chose to ask, “How can I serve you better?” That simple question opened a floodgate of honesty and connection. Communication isn’t just about being heard—it’s about creating space for others to be known.

Reflect: How can your words today reflect the grace and truth of Christ to those you lead?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, guide my speech. Let my words be life-giving and truth-telling.
