Legacy: Maximizing Your ImpactSample

Eternity in Your Heart
From the very beginning, humanity has carried a longing for something more than what this world can offer. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV) reveals why: "He has also set eternity in the human heart”. This means we were created not only for time—but for timelessness. Beneath our daily routines is a deep awareness that life is meant to matter beyond the present moment.
This changes everything. If eternity is real—and if we were made with that eternal reality in mind—then our time, relationships, resources, and calling all carry far more significance than we often realize.
Solomon, who wrote these words, experienced both the beauty of legacy and the pain of compromise. Though he ruled with great wisdom and built the temple for God's name, his heart drifted. His son Rehoboam, inheriting the throne but not the vision, fractured the kingdom. Their story is a powerful reminder: legacy isn’t automatic. It must be intentionally built, faithfully stewarded, and carefully passed on.
Throughout Scripture, we see people who lived with eternity in view. David fulfilled God’s purpose in his generation (Acts 13:36). Paul ran his race with his eyes on an imperishable crown (1 Corinthians 9:25). Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before Him (Hebrews 12:2). To live with eternity in mind is to live each day as if it echoes in forever.
God has already placed that longing within you. Will you respond to it?
Prayer: Father, thank You for setting eternity in my heart. Awaken in me a holy desire to live not just for today, but for what lasts forever. Teach me to see my time, gifts, and relationships through the lens of eternity. Help me live with vision, purpose, and legacy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection Questions:
- In what ways do you feel the longing to live a life that matters beyond this moment?
- How might your priorities shift if you viewed each day in light of eternity?
