Grieving With Purpose: A Journey Through Loss

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: When Purpose Starts to Stir Again

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."
—1 Peter 5:10 NIV

When you’ve walked through tragedy, purpose can feel like a foreign word. It did for me. I didn’t want to hear about silver linings or reasons behind the pain. I just wanted my son back.

But over time—slowly and gently—God began to whisper new things into my heart. Not to erase the grief, but to show me that it wasn’t the only thing I had left. The fire that tried to destroy me didn’t get the final word. God was still writing my story.

One day, while sitting in silence, I heard something rise inside of me: “You still have purpose.” It was simple, but it was holy. I didn’t need to know exactly what that purpose looked like. I just needed to believe that my life still held meaning—that God wasn’t done.

That truth didn’t cancel my pain. It accompanied it.

Grief and purpose can live in the same space. In fact, your story of loss might carry keys that unlock healing for someone else. I’ve seen that firsthand. As I share what God has done in me, others find courage to believe He can meet them, too.

So today, ask yourself—not what you’ve lost, but what God might be forming in the ashes.

Reflect

Has God been stirring anything in your heart lately? Are there moments when you sense He’s inviting you to step forward again, even if it’s just one small step?

Pray

God, I’m still here. I don’t have it all figured out, but I believe You’re not finished with me. Help me to hear Your voice calling me into purpose again. Show me how even my pain can become part of something beautiful. Amen.
