DAY 1 OF 7

I’m so happy you’re here with us this week, making this investment of your time to really grow in your relationship with God.

Relationships are all about communication, right? But a lot of people wonder, “How in the world do I communicate with God? How do I hear from Him?"

When you read or listen to the Bible—as you listen attentively—expect that God will speak to you. God is speaking to you. Sometimes you’re gonna gain some truth and wisdom—it’s big-picture stuff that just serves you all of the days of your life. At other times a verse will jump out at you, and it seems to be addressing the very specific challenge of your life in the moment! He speaks through His word.

Hearing from God—being in the word (that’s the Bible) daily—that’s essential to your spiritual growth. Understanding it thoroughly… that’s a lifetime’s investment, and well worth it! And, it gets easier over time. But even if you don’t understand every complexity, it is living and active—able to shape your life every step of the way.

Every minute you spend in God’s word—it’s worth it. Even a few minutes each day can transform your heart. God’s words are much more powerful than my words. Don’t quote me, quote God! That’s why everything we share with you here comes from the Bible.

As you continue on this journey with us, you’re going to hear verses and gain the truths that will shape your life. You’ll begin to notice how God’s Word is transforming you—sculpting you to be more like Him.

God’s Word is His way of inviting you into a deeper friendship with Him. It does take time, but it adds up remarkably over time. Every morning at our house, as I’m reading my Bible, I see Wendy reading her Bible. So, Wendy, you tell us—why do you read the Bible? Why is it important to you?

The Bible is so important to me because God speaks to me through it.

When I read the Bible, I get to see what God is like. I get to know Him better. And as I get to know Him, I understand so much more clearly how He wants me to live in this world. But I get that the Bible is so big, and it's hard to know where to start. I say, start by reading about the life of Jesus.

The Bible has 66 different books—some are history, some are poetry. If you’re new to the Bible, just start with one book—the book of John. It's such a great book to start with because it tells the story of Jesus’ life on this earth—His miracles, His death, and resurrection. Your life belongs to Jesus, and you need to know what He's like!

What was His personality like?

How did He treat people?

Did He get angry?

How did He respond when people failed Him?

What did He say to His closest friends before He died?

He might be different than you thought! And don’t worry if you get confused from time to time. You don’t have to perfectly understand every verse. I’m so excited for what God will show you this week. No matter what part of the Bible you choose to listen to, I know one thing for sure—when the Word of God becomes planted in your heart, your relationship with God is going to grow! You’re going to fall more in love with Jesus.

Let’s pray.

Lord, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for allowing us to know You through the life of Jesus. You’ve changed my life, and I want to hear Your voice. I come before You with an open heart. Help me listen eagerly to the pure truth of Scripture. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
