The Holiness of God

Read: Psalm 99
"Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy." (Psalm 99:5 NIV)

Devotional Thought:
Psalm 99 repeatedly declares, “He is holy.” God is not like us—he is set apart, pure, and perfect in all his ways. His holiness means that his love is perfect, his justice is perfect, and his ways are beyond our understanding. When we pray “hallowed be your name,” we are acknowledging that God’s name is sacred and worthy of honour. To hallow his name means to live in a way that reflects his holiness. Worship is our response—bowing in reverence and awe before the One who reigns in majesty.

Prayer Practice: Sung Worship as Prayer
Begin or end today by listening to or singing a worship song that exalts God's holiness (e.g., “Holy, Holy, Holy” or “Revelation Song”). Let the lyrics become your prayer. Allow the melody and words to lead you into awe and adoration.

Reflection Activity:
Find a quiet place, kneel, and read Psalm 99 aloud as a prayer of worship. Meditate on the phrase “He is holy.”

Holy God, your name is above every name. Teach me to honour you not just with my words, but with my life. May my thoughts, actions, and desires reflect your holiness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
